..wanted to share my progress with portrait practice ...a free-hand pencil sketch of my grandmother working from an old black and white photo ...I'm struggling but at the same time I'm enjoying just taking time to focus on portraits and sketch ...consuming lots of 8B pencils.
....."childhood memories" i was given this very small timber orange spinning top as a child in turn both my daughters have played with it ..i found it yesterday so made quite a few quick sketches ..here are a couple of initial sketches not sure if they look like a spinning tops but exploring the movement with washes ...still love watching it spin.
...a couple of watercolour still life studies painted from life ...should have reserved more of the whites in the garlic head "garlic i" .... might add some white ...some garlic heads are quite brown ... broke the garlic head and made a quick and simple wash "garlic ii" using the same palette and working on a much smoother paper .
Fabriano 300g/m2 watercolour study painted from life
30.5 x 45.5cm
....watercolour study of a simlple cast iron "flat iron" or "sad iron" ....a beautiful object in it's own right .
Flat irons can been seen in both paintings of
Edgar Degas Women at Work "Women Ironing" 19th century and Picasso's "Woman Ironing" 1904.
