I'm dishearted it's just been brought to my attention a crop of one of my paintings of poinsettas "Stella di Natale" has been posted today and used by a blogger the link is below ...it's very sad to see someone posting your artwork and saying they have painted it ...I ask why ? and What is the point ?
Copyright is an issue .....
I used my painting of "Stella di Natale" Poinsettas last year for e-mail cards and a limited number of printed christmas cards.
here's a copy of laurie's post with my painting of poinsetta's cropped

Jane, this is just another copyright issue in a long wave of copyright infringements this year by other artists and bloggers…. and exactly why I almost stopped blogging myself a few months back. It really, really sucks! I have stopped following this person’s blog and am really considering discontinuing blogging again, even though I have just set up my new personal challenge....why set ourselves up for copy cat artists to get an ego boost? I feel your pain and irritation.
RispondiEliminaBlogs are full of copy cats, it really sucks, and this one is so clearly a clone.
RispondiEliminaOf course it is of no consolation that being copied is a form of flattery, it is SO annoying!
Jane this is awful. I exactly know how this feels ... a blogger / art teacher in America posted my work as her own on her website this year too. She was very brazen about it. I have absolutely no idea what motivates people to pass someone else's work off as their own. It's baffling. Just realise, Jane, that you are not alone in this ... we feel your frustration and anger.
RispondiEliminaHowever, these thieves will definitely be found out and 'shamed' one day ... Google's reverse image search will see to that!!! And may they blush the deepest shade of alizarin crimson whenever they try to paint! xx
I stopped following this person too. It is really awful that this happens!
RispondiEliminaJane,
RispondiEliminaSo sorry this happened! I use a watermark on everything now. That doesn't prevent the copying which I see popping up in Etsy occasionally, but you can tell it's a copy. This was thievery.
Jane, I see stealing happens everywhere all the time.
RispondiEliminaBut time puts everything into place. People can not be so easily fooled, her success (with your painting) survives one week, your permanent and personal work makes your blog a treasure among watercolor blogs. Please keep going, that rubbish will "fly away" so fast.
Jane, trust that people usually do the right thing. I believe most people are honest and don't try to pass off the work of others as their own. I'm sorry this happened to you, but please don't be disheartened. Dishonest people are in the minority.
RispondiEliminaKeep painting and posting your lovely works. We enjoy them so much! Hugs to you.
Jane, that is sadly and pathetically human...
RispondiEliminaI had something similar happen to me earlier this year; they copied one of my dog portraits, and did a pretty poor job of it, too! Your poinsettia is incomparably better!!!!
Hi Jane, long time if you write and say but it was not because of my computer soon restore hope in the meantime I follow closely with the computer of my brother, still is a joy to paint beautifully continue your work, greetings.
RispondiEliminaSo sorry this happened to you.
RispondiEliminaWe have an old saying "Cheats never prosper"
They don't you know, they only delude themselves.
You are the painter, the maestro.
Take heart! xx
Thankyou all for your replies and moral support . The link above to the blog I mentioned has been removed since I posted this yesterday ..I am feeling both angry and sorry for the person as she obviously has problems however I wanted to highlight this action as it is so wrong of her to have copied ,modified the saturation and pasted my orginal artwork on her blog saying she had painted it.
RispondiEliminaI know this has happened to other people and will carrying on happening … I wanted to thank Judy who noticed it in the first place….and both Maggie and Rhonda who have written blog posts following my post.
I appreciate all the e-mails I've received from fellow bloggers today and yesterday.
Maggie thankyou so very much for your e-mail you sent this morning and your reply here ..i was so very sorry to read your post and your decision on your own challenge ... there is no real justification for this type of behaviour.
Jane you are right there are sadly so many cases of copying.. grazie.
Theresa I'm sorry you have had also your work used ..I'm not sure what the right action is to take in this case thankyou for your understanding . I wonder how many times images are copied without artist knowing ...started looking at Goggle reverse image thankyou for mentioning it .
Judy I was told the post was removed on her blog...thankyou so much for letting me know about this in the first place.
Thankyou Carol yes it is a form theft … and thankyou for your suggestion re Watermarks
Irina thankyou so much for your kind words... will keep posting.
Carrie I like to believe most people are honest ..thankyou
Thanks Katharyn I'm sorry you have had your work copied there isn't much you can do about it .
Dani thanks for your message glad you're ok .
Jane, that someone would copy the work of another blogger and claim it as their own is incomprehensible - surely they must know they will be found out! In any case, your work is so beautiful that I can see why someone would wish they could paint as you do, but I condemn anyone who is a thief! I do not try to watermark my work or do anything to keep out copycats...I am hoping what I do is individual enough that it won't be stolen. Never say never. I know it could happen (I did have one of my drawings stolen once by a tattoo artist - my son saw my design on the shoulder of someone walking around in a downtown Rochester area.) Still it is a sickening feeling but don't let it stop you from posting your beautiful work!
RispondiEliminaI am glad you mentioned the person who used your art,, as many times bloggers say...oh I was copied or what have you but most of the time never reference the copier/blog, etc. If more people would do what you just did maybe it would help curb such behavior. I looked at the copier´s blog and supposedly she lost all her posts...Have you written her an email or anything? I can´t imagine what she would have to say about this.
RispondiEliminajane so sorry this has happened.. please don't let any one dampen your spirits .. just keep painting your beautiful paintings.. sadly there are those that don't know or don't care.. and maybe after reading these posts from many bloggers.. those that dont know.. will learn and pass on the info to others~~~
RispondiEliminatake care
cindi
pat.... will do... thankyou for your kind thoughts .
RispondiEliminacindi i hope so .. many thanks for your kind words .
RispondiEliminakaren thankyou .. it is difficult to comprehend... in principle it is so wrong ..( must have been a special tattoo )
RispondiEliminathanks cynthia see her post has been removed would be nice to have an explanation takes courage to write an apology ... thought it would be more direct to write a post with a link and just highlight want has happened.. prehaps i should have been more discrete .
RispondiEliminaI'm so opposed to copying someone's art with the intensions of sales. It's a far cry from copying as a means of learning. I've posted several times about this very thing. I call it modern day pirates. I have zero tolerance for it. I'm sorry you were a victim.
RispondiEliminaMy latest post is concerning pirating.
i read your "modern day pirate" posts with great interest susan ...highlighting what happens can only help other artist and bloggers .
RispondiElimina....thankyou for taking time to leave a comment esp as my original post makes little sense now as there is no link to the blog or the image only ! both were removed by the other blogger within a couple of days of my post.
thankyou so much susan.
