watercolour + gravel + sand
detail of the above watercolour wash /texture swatch showing textures created with gravel and sand
....this swatch / experiment was inspired by Nita Engles chapter WORKING WITH UNUSUAL MATERIALS .. Using Gravel and Sand.... HOW TO MAKE COLOUR PAINT ITSELF
Interesting textures and beautiful colours!
RispondiEliminaFascinating effects, Jane! I also like the previous one, with alcohol!
RispondiEliminaHai Jane:) How beautiful! It looks like something antique. Very nice!
RispondiEliminaJane your curiosity is commendable. It takes a lot of energy to explore textures the way you do. I admire that.
RispondiEliminaInteresting to use gravel and sand. I know they have acrylic mediums that use sand and gritty things but I wouldn't have thought to just use the real stuff! It created some very nice shapes and textures - wonder about the lasting effects? Will it adhere to the paper for a long time? Will it change the colors over time? I always think of those things but sometimes you just have to play and try it :)
RispondiEliminaI really like this effect. Thanks for sharing your texture experiments. This one begs a poem :).
RispondiEliminaStay inspired!
What a great effect! Kind of like rusty paint? Brilliant :0)
RispondiEliminaJane, ma che bello e interessante l'effetto della ghiaia e della sabbia. Prima o poi dovrò decidermi a provarli! Grazie per l'info! Ciao.
RispondiEliminaI like the textures achieved with natural substances. The contrast in the colour is lovely and reminds me of the shore line.
RispondiEliminaI've used sand a number of times in watercolour paintings and like the softer effect it gives as opposed to salt.
thankyou sonia judy renate linda ...i'm enjoying making and experimenting with textures and swatches .
RispondiEliminathanks rhonda i ask the same questions too for all of the experiments i've been doing ....the gravel comes off ok there is a residue from the sand ...will see what happens to the paper and swatch in time...play for now :)

¡Me encantan los dos, Jane!
RispondiEliminajuan thankyou ...it's the same painting just a close up to show detail of texture ... hope your show was a success .
RispondiEliminaInteresante textura. ¿La arena queda bien fijada o hay que fijarla con laca o similar?
RispondiEliminasergio thanks for your suggestion ....prehaps a sealant or fixative would be a good idea with the sand
RispondiEliminaDid you use only one color and them sand? Lovely effect.
RispondiEliminaJean
