textures - watercolour + gesso

18 1/2 X  17 cm 
maimeri acrilico Gesso  + W&N watercolours

posting one of a few small texture swatches  exploring  watercolour and gesso . The  gesso was applied with a palette knife and watercolour washes with 50mm flat brush.

    ana maria it's fascinating to work on the gesso surface ...made about 10 swatches yesterday playing with texture of gesso ..thankyou.

    i can see water too christy ... initial wash was blue 2nd wash red /brown ...i lifted with water and with tissue to see different effects ...thankyou

  8. I have often wondered whether watercolour would actually adhere to Gesso. Clearly it does! What an interesting result too :0)

  9. laura ..as long as you enjoy experimenting results aren't that important ..lots of mine end in disaster ..thanks for looking .

    sandra try it....the watercolour makes beautiful effects on the surface of the gesso when painting on it .... you can "lift off" the watercolour easily ... i have used it in the past to add textures to only a small section of watercolour painting .

  12. Really like this piece. I've been experimenting with gesso ever since buying Ann Blockley's book on textures. Have not had anything worth posting yet thought. This one is really interesting. Well done.
