I'm sharing a  few photos from the collective exhibition "Benedetti Artisti" of my work inspired by the  environment  of the abandoned and dismissed  mill where the exhibition was held . The proposal of  my works explores and interprets the nature of the place, proposing the transformation of the natural element: the flour.

Jane Minter

è una pittrice inglese, in mostra propone rappresentazioni a base di impasto di farina e acquerello - tecnica amata da Turner -  nella quali si leggono le fluorescenze naturali ma anche immagini di paesaggi e trasparenze di altre nature che pure appartengono al grande masterplan di nascita, morte, rinascita e trasformazione dove anche la rosa, i frutti, i monumenti si trasformano dando vita a qualcosa di nuovo.

is an English painter, who proposes in the exhibition  works  with a base of "impasto" -  flour and watercolour - a technique used by Turner - in which you read the natural fluorescence but also images of landscapes and transparencies of other natures which belong to the great masterplan of birth, death , rebirth and transformation where also the rose, the fruits, the monuments are transformed giving birth to something new.

An old disused mill has been temporarely transformed into a multifunctional space for contemporary art. The Molino Benedetti, sober architecture of the '50s, is located in Grisignano di Zocco and on Saturday, June 7th 2014  at 6pm will host "Benedetti Artisti" : paintings, installations, photography, sound interventions will break for a short interval of one month from the spell that  for years silenced the mill obsolescence. - In Grisignano di Zocco, Vicenza Italy .

 I've started to use the iPad  to manipulate photos of my watercolours . With "news"/ "notzie" I used  iPad's basic iPhoto App  to edit and create the digital image above.The next step will be to use this digital image and others to explore and generate ideas for new paintings .There is definately  a  lot of scope with this approach and a lot to learn. It's a brilliant design tool.

.....another small wash painted on plastic coated inkjet paper . The paint was applied with a brush and a printing roller .From a distance the pattern created reminds me of a night time view of a glass façade . The plastic  coated  surface of the printing paper is fascinating to work on .It appears to be very similar to working on Yupo and other synthetic papers - here's a link about synthetic paper on handprint.com   http://www.handprint.com/HP/WCL/paper4.html 
It would be interesting to develop this wash  by wiping/lifting off areas creating hard edges  and adding additional layers .

"mark making" .....  I recently created  50 small watercolour washes rapidly  in one session experimenting with  a printing roller /brush and watercolour on off cuts of gloss printing paper  ...the results are very mixed and interesting . I'll post a sample of some of the washes which hopefully will give you an insight into the process .

FONTENAY cansons 

1.  Here I simply added watercolour to the fine  foam ( washing up liquid + water ) in the sink  . 
2.  A sheet of paper was laid over the top of the fine bubbles .
3.  As the bubbles burst a delicate  imprint of the bubbles was left on the paper - some of the bubbles burst on the paper .  Hopefully the photos show this . This pattern reminded  me of the pattern of  flox glove petals.
4.  The paper was left to dry  .. The effects vary with the type and quality of the paper..... here I used Canson Fontenay 300g/m2 . (I could have carried  on working on this whilst it is still wet ) .

PRINTING  paper 

1. A mix of watercolour pigment + washing up liquid + water  in a container were blown with a straw  to create a mass of large bubbles . 
2.  A sheet of paper was laid over the top of the bubbles ( the pattern will vary with the placement of the paper  and type of paper - there are  lots of options to play with  you can place the whole sheet or just part over the bubbles.  Moving  the paper whilst the bubbles burst is also interesting . ) 
3.  As the bubbles burst a delicate random  imprint of the bubbles was left on the paper - some  bubbles  burst on the paper . Hopefully the photos above show this and the variation of the imprint . The images are very pale (more pigment can be added if a darker value is required .)
4.  The paper is left to dry  . The effects vary with the type and quality of the paper. . Here I used a smooth good quality printing paper which worked well I also used a fine cardboard with a smooth surface that made very fine prints .( I'm looking for an economical solution to work with children . It would be interesting to hear from anybody who has tried a variety of papers.)
5. Beautiful effects can be achieved repeating the process with the superimposition of the bubble patterns.

PRINTING  paper 

1.  Above I placed the residue of the bubble mix  (watercolour + washing up liquid and water ) onto a few of the swatches I made above. The organic patterns are fascinating . You can charge the bubbles with other colours and bubbles whilst the bubbles are drying on the paper . An alternative which kids love is to  blow the bubble mixture with colour onto paper and watch the bubbles burst on the paper.
