....a simple study just practicing exercises on "controluce" covered in the last couple of weeks at  the watercolour course that I'm attending .

Did not know this technique had a name. I've seen a few watercolors along these lines and it is a very effective technique well executed by you.

This is so pretty Jane , very slightly London foggy, the atmosphere is beautiful and the execution perfect.

I live just 60 miles from London, in the countryside, and near to the coast. But I do have to go to London from time to time and I have to say, I think this painting is absolutely superb! You have captured the place so well! :0)

Wow Jane this is great! I love the haunting atmosphere. It kind of reminds me of the setting for a Sherlock Holmes story.

i'm sorry not to have replied sooner to all your comments here .... had a really busy week white washing walls and hanging all the paintings for my first solo exhibition ...will catch up with your blogs soon.

Hi jean that's just italian - "against the light" :)thankyou ..we had a good lesson practicing skies and foliage in the foreground ..it's very effective .

hi cobalt thankyou ... will use this as a base to paint another ..as it's quite tight ...should have taken longer to set up the initial dwg esp bridge .. should have change the value of the bridge towards bg
