Watercolour PAINTING by Jean - Louis Morelle - Rosehips step by step by Ewa Karpinska
last year at Jean Haines' workshop Jean recommended a wonderful book by Jean-Louis Morelle "Watercolour PAINTING" ...... my painting is one of the many exercises and step by steps i have enjoyed following and painting from his book ... Rosehips step by step by Ewa Karpinska .... i have since brought Ewa Karpiska's book "wet on wet watercolour painting " which is excellent.

pines + snow
WIP using masking fluid and masking tape
i painted this last year inspired by an article in SAA by Paul Talbolt march 2005 .
the patterns of the lower branches of the pines in the forest are beautiful with the snow and clear clear blue skies.... the painting was based on many photos i took whilst walking in the mountains ..... as we have just come back from the mountains this w-e i wanted to share a few of my snow scenes to date here...

cachi ...persimmons still life study
.... thanks to kay smith for the wonderful colourful reference ...we have three of these fruit trees in our garden ... when the leaves fall in nov the bright orange persimmons "cachi" which remain look wonderful.

Rowland Hilder's "Painting Landscapes in Watercolour" .... "country lane" step by step

...about 25 years ago I was very lucky to visit Rowland Hilder's studio with my father in Blackheath .... I'll never forget him, his studio and his work .... he demonstrated on a full sheet how to paint a simple "flat wash" .... as we were leaving the studio he gave me my first ever watercolour book "STARTING WITH WATERCOLOUR " .... this is a step by step I painted recently of a " country lane " from "Painting Landscapes in Watercolour" by Rowland Hilder....alot of his work can be seen by goggling "images by Rowland Hilder"

....yesterday we went to see Alpina Della Martina's "LUCE" exhibition in Trieste ... it was such a pleasure to talk with her and see her paintings for the first time ... her watercolours are so incredibly beautiful ....i've added her link here
