The "Radicco Rosso di Chiogga" have a wonderful bitter spicy taste to eat simply as salad or grill ...delicious with pasta and rissotto ....here are two studies i painted last night whilst cooking ..the red leaves with the white veins are really striking .

These are really beautiful Jane, the fluidity is magic! Amazing that you did this while cooking!
I had the great pleasure of spending a few days in Padova last week and the markets were full of radiccio tardivo - similar to this but with long curley, "medusa" like leaves. Delicious just grilled with a little oil and vinegar. You're lucky to have such inspiration on your doorstep!
