portrait sketch #1

portrait sketch #1
pencil sketch A4

..wanted to share my progress with portrait practice ...a free-hand pencil sketch of my grandmother  working from an old  black and white photo  ...I'm struggling but at the same time I'm enjoying just taking time to focus on portraits and sketch ...consuming lots of 8B pencils.

Very beautiful, Jane!

Great portrait Jane ! A lot of expression...it isn't easy but it is fun when all of a sudden grandmother or whoever you are sketching is staring at you. I am sketching one of my sisters for the moment, and it makes me chuckle to 'create ' her , there is something intimate about portraits.

Really like this and how you have kept the angle of the pencil lines to bring out the face.

Hi,Jane,
Just take it easy. The eyes are very impressive, which tell viewers stories. Have fun! Hope your pencils will dance on papers.
Kind regards,Sadami

Ooh they are so challenging aren't they, those portraits? But it's also so absorbing! It's also surprising how even the slightest miss-placed highlight or shadow can mean the difference between a likeness or not! This looks great and I can't wait to see more :0)

This is really great. You have such an effortless looking style going on here that gives it such a free and easy appeal.
