....above are a few initial swatches showing textures created with string / twine + watercolour using circular motions...I was asked if I'd ever tried using string when I posted "aluminium foil + watercolour washes" ..thankyou Jean for your suggestion.

renate :D twine or string hope that helps ..i used a natural twine here .

judy the suggestion was given to me by jean ...it's similiar to using compasses for drawing circles ....hold one end of the string and turn the other end in a circle clockwise/anti - clockwise ...effects are interesting ..thanks
These are so interesting Jane. Thanks for the explanation-I thought at first you laid the string into the wash. Maybe we can try that too!
hi christy thanks ... sorry didn't make it clear i laid string on a wet wash in the last three blue washes at the bottom
2 of the washes were with the string painted ..the last one with the string just wet and no paint .

jala thanks so much i'm making lots of swatches and just experimenting ... Mary Whyte has used string to create textures with watercolour in bg ...incredibly beautiful.
